Ask an Expert
- Calves & Heifers — I would greatly appreciate receiving inormation regarding the ammonia release method for estimation of rumen undegradable protein. I am interested in setting such method; either the method or where to find it would be of value. Thank you very much.

Conclusions
With record milk prices in the United States (over $20.00 per cwt), dairy managers are paying off debt and getting ready for the next period of lower milk prices. Futures markets are predicting $12.20 per cwt in December of 2004. The higher milk prices are related to reduced availability of BST, closure of the Canadian border preventing 80,000 replacement heifers from traveling south, and high replacement heifer prices (over $2000). Higher corn and soybean prices and low quality first cutting hay / haylage will reduce the profit margin (feed prices are up 20 percent compared to last year).
