Dear Horseperson:

The Illinois Horse Judges Seminar is designed to meet three major areas of need.

First, the seminar is designed as an educational opportunity for judges and potential judges of youth (4-H) and open shows, as well as exhibitors and spectators. Presentations include judging halter, hunt seat, stock seat and saddle seat classes.

Second, the program is designed to create more uniform judging standards. The Danish System of awarding A, B and C ratings used in placing Illinois 4-H Horse Shows is stressed.

Third, this seminar is designed to be an aid to horse show committees. The development of the following judges directory provides a listing of potential horse show judges for committees to consider when selecting judges. This listing should not be considered exclusive since many excellent judges are not listed on these pages. Likewise, listing in the directory should not be interpreted as proven judging ability, but rather as a statement that these judges have made a conscientious effort to improve their judging skills. The Illinois Horse Judges Directory does indicate that these judges:

  1. Attended the Illinois State Horse Judge's Seminar
  2. Passed a written examination
  3. Have some judging experience

To maintain directory listing, judges must pass the written examination once in every three years, and attend two seminars in every three years. If you wish to receive a copy of the 2006 Illinois Horse Judges Directory please e-mail me at kkline@uiuc.edu
