The Mental Processes of a Stock Judge
R.R. Benson
08/16/2005

Discriminating breeding involves, among other things, careful selection of the animals to be bred. This selection implies that the judge has a mental picture of the animal he wants, knows the limitations of the stock with which he deals, is able accurately to compare actual with ideal characteristics and to decide which combination of characteristics is most in harmony with the ideal. Or, since no animal is perfect, he must decide which combination of defects detracts least from the sum total of ideal qualities.
